Controlspower to the ballast.
The IceCastcompletely removes power from the dimmer in fault conditions, providinga backup to the built in shutdown within the ballast and the dimmer. Ifa fault is detected, the dimmer will kill power to the ballast. This providesadditional protection should the internal shutdown of the ballast fail.No other dimmer in its class has this capability.  Provides the controlnecessary for re-striking Metal Halide Lamps (near future software release). The AC power routed and switched through the dimmer is fused internallyto provide an extra margin of safety. A heavy-duty 30A relay is used forswitching the power (same as used in our Light-Wave™).

High ImpedanceProtective Shutdown
The shutdownin the IceCast is unique to the industry. It remains completely passivepresenting no load to the ballast until the detection of a fault.  The shutdown circuit monitors the output drive of the ballast and detectsover-voltage conditions that can occur when lamps burn out, are broken,or an end-cap connection is lost.  Upon detection of a fault, theshutdown disable is removed and AC power is removed (disabling shutdownis required for dimming). This provides redundant protection in the eventof an over-voltage fault if ever the ballast's internal shutdown fails.

Dim TimeLimiting
Icecap, Inc.has mandated that  dimming periods be limited to two hours. The IceCastmonitors the time that the unit is left in manual dimming and will disabledimming to provide a cool down period. The IceCast is the only producton the market with this feature.

SimpleInterconnect
The wiringharness used to connect your dimmer to the Icecap ballast is very simpleto connect. No splicing of wires is required as with other dimmers. Thereis only one way to connect it. Simply connect the T harness inline betweenthe ballast and light harness, connect the dimming cable to the ballast,and you are off and running. Hook up time is less than 1 minute. You geta solid, reliable connection to the ballast and harness.

SingleTimer Operation
Since theIceCast applies and removes power to the ballast, only one inexpensivelow power timer is required.  No need for a second $30+ timer to turnthe ballast on and off.  Simply program the timer to come on at sunrise,and to turn off at the beginning of sunset.

SoftwareUpgradeable
The IceCastis the only dimmer in its class that is software upgradeable. The IceCastis a microprocessor based dimmer and is easily upgraded. As new featuresand capabilities are added, your dimmer can be upgraded. Near future plansinclude cloud cover simulation and Metal Halide dimming support.
