HC works best in a reactor or a canister filter and is only "ok" in a media bag. HC is very dense and allows greater flow through a reactor without flying out the top, easy to rinse and clean, too.. (advantage HC) HC adsorbs Phosphates, Silicates and Arsenic at about the same speed (rate) but the HC is effective for 8+ weeks and has a massive total capacity.
