3 Great pump, poor construction

I bought my nanostream in November, 2006. Within the first six months, the clip broke and the clip separated from the magnetic base. However, since then, I have superglued the base back on and use a zip tie to hold the pump onto the clip. It has worked like a charm ever since.

1 Poor Quality and High Price????

The only thing this pump has going for it is good flow in a small package. That's if you can get it to run. I finally gave up and tossed it in the trash. Broken plastic parts, noisy operation, intermittent stoppages, failure to restart and high price is why I'll never buy another one. It was fine for a few months but then it became a problem. George at Tunze was great in getting me replacement parts..but for the price of this pump, I shouldn't have had to ask him numerous times for them. Did I get a lemon? Sure sounds like there are a lot of them out there. I switched over to Koralia and have been happy ever since.

2 Nice Flow but low quality construction

When I first purchased one of these I was excited about getting it into my tank. When I tried installing it, the mounting clips broke off and I had to superglue it to the base. When cleaning it the housing does not fit tightly back together. Sometimes when first starting the pump it runs backwards. I do like the flow, but it hardly is worth the money!

great for moving lots of water in a wide cone in a small tank. mine has been running for about 9 months now without a single problem. my only complaint is that you can't use with a wavemaker as they have a tendency to reverse polarity when turned of and back on ( the hydor koralia's do the same thing). this was a pain when i used to have to turn my pumps off when doing water changes on my 29 gal nano cube as when i turned them back on i would occasionally have to unplug and plug back in until the impeller turned in the correct direction. other than that it is extremely quiet and very reliable. i am upgrading to the tunze 6000 stream pumps with the controller for my 70 very soon and i'll have all the wavemaking and current control capabilities i'd ever want, albiet at a high cost!

2 bad quality control

I have gone through about 6 of these pumps, and two 6045s so far. I got some of the very first ones released in the US, and they were fraught with problems, from noise, not restarting, breakage of plastic parts, etc. I sent mine back because the shaft kept coming loose from the pump motor. Even cheap powerheads don't do this. Thank goodness Roger Vitko replaces this stuff at no charge, but, shipping these things back constantly adds up. Several other members of my local reef club have experienced the same thing. I've had them for about 11 months, and now the C-bracket broke in half on both units I have (not the tabs) when I disassembled them to clean them last week. Roger replaced that, and now one of them, when I restarted it, rattles, because the shaft came loose...this is a problem Tunze claims to have fixed. Thankfully, there's a 2 year warranty...why can't they get it right? When they work, they work very well...nice broad flow.

Despite being not controllable, these are nice little stream style pumps. Pushes a good amount of water with the reliability of being a Tunze. I would definitely get another.

I have used a lot of these in different tanks since they came out on the market. They were backorderd many times becasue Tunze who hand makes each pump, could not keep up with the demand. NOW they are here and they are here to stay. This is the last pump you will ever buy!!!!!!

2 Not Happy

I have had one of these for about 7 months. When it worked, it has a little startup noise, and the flow was decent. The prop started sticking occasionally after about a month of use, and now it does not work at all. The clips also broke off and I had to glue it to the base. I give it a 2 due to flow, but I would not buy another one. The quality is no better than cheaper pumps, so why pay the extra?

1 Good pumps

I have three of these in my reef and I like them. You just have to deal with their quirks. The "C" shaped plastic piece that holds the pump will break off of the base. You just have to superglue it back and it is fine. They are really easy to clean, just slip the pump out of the "C" holder and leave that part in the tank. I would say just a little less flow than a Seio 820...just a little. They are small and look good in the tank. I would buy them again. I did the mod where you trim the inside of the front housing which increased the flow and is recommended if you are looking for more flow.

I got 4 of these for my system and man do they get the job done. I did have 4 Maxi Jet 1200's and these put the maxi'd to shame almost.. I would HIGHLY recommend these for water circulation in your system.
