2 Not Enough Low Level Resolution
|

There isn't enough low ammonia level resolution in this test because it does not have a detailed range below 0.25 ppm. Levels between 0.05 and 0.2 ppm are already toxic to sensitive corals and fish! Therefore we need to be able to detect this. Also, the color grades on the card that correspond to the concentration of ammonia from 0.25 and 0.50 become much too light of a yellow to easily read. This kit does have some value since it is quick to use but is only a coarse test.

3 I Expected Better

I didn't trust my Red Sea test, so I bought the more expensive Salifert Ammonia test. Both brands are a nuisance to use, but at least the Red Sea is easy to read. Salifert uses varying shades of pale yellow. I now trust the Red Sea test and use it.

2 Difficult to differentiate

In using this kit, I found it very difficult to see what shade the sample was versus the reference card. It would be a lot easier if the different levels of ammonia were shown in different colors instead of shades of the same color.

Any ammonia kit that has a low reading of >.5 has no place in the hobby. This kit has no place in the Salifert family. Not up to their standards or mine. If it doesn't have a zero reading, it shouldn't be sold or used.
