5 2 years and counting 06/29/2006 - by Cosmo from Philadelphia, PA
I've bought two of these two years ago for my 180g, they've been running flawlessly since then. they put out great flow and are super quiet, my tank is in my bedroom and i can't hear anything from them in a super quiet bedroom.
I've got the newer model that are NOT oil filled, so i don't worry anymore.

I had this pump (RIO 2100) for 6 years and NEVER had a problem with the pump. The only reason I switched to a different pump (MagDrive 950) was because I put in a chiller and the RIO tends to lose head pressure fast. Up until now, I had it as a return pump from my sump to my main tank (38 Gallon). The RIO 2100 pump that I used ran without a hitch and is a good pump. It is still running perfectly and now I have to find some other use for it because it appears to have a lot of life left. BTW, I never had to change any parts on it either the entire time. Maybe I am just one of the lucky few since I see a lot of other complaints out there.

They burn up very easily, dissapointed in the life span, I have bought 4 in two years for a skimmer, looking for different brand from now on.

All buyers are cautioned to stay away from Rio pumps. I started with the 2100 which seized on me after 4 months use. I replaced this with a slightly larger model, the 2500 which seized after 2 months use. I am going back to MAG drive pumps, a bit more expensive out of the gate but if you factor in replacing your Rioevery few months you will come out way ahead.

Have had two fail. The last one was in a 500 g reef system...killed 90% of animals. The pump had a hole burned through the casing.
