Which to choose? As you can see, we now carry two brands of Refractometers. We have searched for couple years now for the best unit. The blue model that we sell for 42.95 was the best we found last year. It's very accurate and affordable. Then we found Sybon, which we actually use to carry under a private label about 4 years ago for a retail price of 114.95. It is what we call a heavy duty model. If you held the two refractometers in your hand you would know why. It's probably twice as much weight, build more sturdy with better parts and quality control. We import them directly from Sybon now and got the former price of 114.95 down to 79.95. Far as accuracy, you'll get the same readings with either model. The Sybon is just built better and in our opinon would last much longer. Both are good and both are much better then any other competitor models we tried. So now basically your choice is a very good model, or the very best model, Sybon. Sybon the largest manufacturer of salinity refractometers. There refractometers are of very highest quality and they come with a small bottle of ultrapure water for occasional recalibration, calibration key, properly written user manual, a piece of soft flannel, a hard plastic case and a very attractive packaging box. The Sybon HD RHS series are designed for testing the concentration of saltwater and brine. It's triple scale provides a direct reading of the specific gravity and concentration. (Parts per thousand) of salt in water and the RHS-10 proves itself invaluable for agriculture, food processing and wildlife management. this instrument is equipped with Automatic Compensation system making it ideal for field use. There is some new information stating for best results you should use a Salinity Fluid like the American Marine Salinity Fluid. This will yield you much more accurate results.  How to calibrate with Salinity Fluid from American Marine: Take a couple drops and read your unit. You should read 1.0259 salinity or 35ppt. Adjust your unit to match one of these two numbers. Once you adjusted the refractometer is now fine tuned for saltwater salinity/ppt. If you read ro/di after calibration you will have a negative reading and that is completely normal, as the unit is fine tuned now for a saltwater tank.

Just received my Sybon refactometer yesterday from Premium Aquatics. After using the Pinpoint salinity calibration fluid too calibrate my new Sybon, the Sybon was right on the mark, out of the box. For anyone that has a Swing Arm salinity tester, do your creaters in your fish or reef tank a big favor and purchase the Sybon refactometer. My swing arm read 1.0225 and the Sybon read 1.0245. This is one of the most important investments you should purchase for your fish tank.

I went to my local Reef Store and as soon as I saw the owner show me one of these I wanted it right away. This was my first order from PA and was that shipped fast. This device has made things a whole lot more easier. I never knew such things existed, otherwise I would have gotten one along time ago. Very good Buy!

I am very pleased with the quality and accuracy of the SYBON FG100sa Refractometer that I purchased. Easy to use, easy to read and very dependable. If you're serious about your water parameters and the health of your corals, inverts and fish, this is the refractometer to choose. Don't trust the "swing arm" hydrometers. They are very inaccurate.As the saying goes, you get what you pay for! The Sybon is a great purchase.

I did not realize how inaccurate my "swing-arm" hydrometer had been registering. This thing helps to bring peace of mind by allowing you to arrive at an appropriate specific gravity. For example, my swing-arm reflected 1.026...actual (per refractometer) was 1.031!! Cross referenced this with another unit--true and precise!!

Very crisp clear optics, dead easy to read, gives exactly the same reading against another very expensive refractometer I compared it against. Feels very heavy and quality built, should last a very long time. Comes with nice plastic storage case. At this price point I believe it to be an extremely good value. I couldn't be more pleased. No more guessing which hydrometer is right. Also thanks Prem. Aqu. for your lightning quick shipping.

I am so pleased that I listened to your reviews about this product. I am also so amazed on how inaccurate hydrometers are. My 13 gallon reef tank has maintained perfect salinity since I bought this product. I used to lose fish & corals after every water change and my nitrates would go up sky high. It baffled me because my calibrated hydrometer always showed 1.23 on my new salt mixtures. After I purchased the Sybon I found that I was over salting my tank. The Sybon showed 1.26 on my new mixtures! Wow, big difference! Now my tank is running in optimum condition. The Sybon is so easy to use and believe me, it is not heavy at all! It's a must for every salt water fish and reef tank! What a great price! Thank you Premium Aquatics for being such an honest, professional and customer friendly company to do business with. I was in the market for a additional refractometer, already having the less expensive model I went with this one. The description does not lie, it is alot heavier and better quality made than other less expensive brands. Also this model is selling on other sites for almost twice as much, thanks to Prem. Aqu. for the always outstanding service and products.
