(09/03/2008) - After about a year the tempature comtroller seemed to have slipped. When my tank is 82 F it reads 77 now. I was having issues over the summer I couldnt explain with my SPS and then when I checked my tempature with my medusa controller and a fauna marin temp probe I realized my chiller was way off, it was telling me I was at 82 and the tank was 87. On a hot day i was lucky to get a 3-4 degree pull down on my 58 RR. I ordered a JBJ chiller to replace it.
(04/22/2008) - so easy to install. incredibly silent and effortless in keep my 70 display tank (with 2x250w HQI), 50 sump (with 1x250w HQI) and 25 refugium at 77 degrees. its also very small. couldnt ask for more from a chiller.
(06/29/2007) - Prem. Aq. recommended this chiller for my 55G/30G reef/sump setup. Got it in 2 days (thanks Premium!) with regular UPS shipping (I live in the midwest) Plugged it in, brought down the temp 2 degrees in about one hour.
Unit is nice looking, seems well built, controls work well, and is very quiet. I can barely hear when it kicks in. I read the reviews here as well as at other sites and many reefers use this chiller on 100G tanks and bigger, which is great. Even has a plug for a heater, so no more messing with multiple inaccurate heaters.
(05/31/2006) - This chiller is sweet!! Very quiet. I have a 72gallon reef with 440watts of lights with a Little Giant return pump and a Mag 7 skimmer pump. Our AC in our house is broke and the inside temp is 93 degrees and this chiller has no problems keeping my tank at 79-81 degrees. Awesome chiller would say the best for your money!
(01/27/2006) - Running on 160 gallons with 650W light and could pull down 5 degrees when the room was about 80F.
However after about a year and half the temperature control has failed and it run continuously regardless of the temp set point.
(12/27/2005) - Running it on my 150 gallon that I coud not get below 80, this chiller keeps it 76-77 with what seems to be relative ease! Great piece of equipment!
(07/05/2005) - I installed this a few weeks ago on my 75 gallon reef with 30 gal refugium. I just installed a second return pump to handle the chiller seperately. It took about 1 hour to get it up and running. The tank is now 77 degrees no matter what the weather outside. I set the unit to 76, and it waits until it detects 78 to turn on. The tank was running about 83-84 before. The lower consistant temps have helped eliminate excess algae growth. The chiller is very quiet, and only runs for about 1 minute every 10 minutes.
(06/16/2005) - Man I REALLY wish this guy would have worked for me! We had a particularly hot spell, and temps were in the 90's outside. This guy managed to get me down to 84 or so, not bad on a 90 gallon tank, with a 30 gallon sump, with a pair of 250's in a canopy, 7" off the water! I don't have AC at this house, if I did, I'll bet this would have worked fine for me! I was reading the reviews and hoping it would work, it ALMOST did. I think my application was just to large for this little guy. I replaced this one with the 1/4 hp model, also from Pacific Coast, I will post a review on it next week!
(05/16/2005) - It's been running since 07/2003 on my 55 acro tank. I have 2 250's and 2 110 actinics sitting right on the tank
and it has kept it at a consistent 79 degrees.
(10/27/2004) - I am running this on my 75 gallon tank with dual halides, and a large mag 12 in my 20 gallon sump. My temp was right at 80 before. I run the chiller at 74 and it keeps the tank there, and does not run all the time. This is a very efficient unit!!!
(07/25/2004) - Highly Recommended - QUIET! Very nicely packaged. My 120 Gal tank is in a cool basement, but it has twin 250 MH lights +sup, lots of pump and a 35 gallon sump. It only runs 4-5 degrees too hot in the summer which doesn't kill anything, but I have a few anemones and corals that wilt a little in anything above 78. So I figured I'd give this a try instead of spending big bucks on a larger unit. It works great! pulled the temperature from 82 to 77 in a few hours - and keeps it there. It's REALLY quiet too. So for those of you with larger systems, this may be an option. The manual is a little humorous and is obviously poorly translated from a foreign language - but it's a no-brainer to setup.
(06/21/2004) - This chiller is perfect for a 58 gal. with sump, refugeume, & (3) 90 watt compacts. It chilled from 82F down to 70F.
Finally a descent chiller I can afford.
(06/01/2004) - The price is right, and it is reasonably quiet, certainly more so than the first generation chillers. My first chiller was a hulking behemoth used on a 30 mini-reef. Mine is a 75 and so far so good.
(06/01/2004) - Great investment for tanks upto 90G. I am running this one on a 40G SPS tank w/ 20G refugium and 20G sump. I have 400 halide and 2x95 vho actinic running on this system so it does get hot.
Brought down the temp from 87 to 80 within 5 hrs. Does not drop temp immediately which is good - no sudden temp shock to livestock. Not extremely noisy either, you will hear some noise but its better than ones I have seen and heard before. Small and nice looking unit.
A minor adjustment may be needed for the CSA display readout. My thermometer readings don't match up with the chiller readings but that may be the +-4 deviation.
Again, this is running since yesterday only and some adjustment needs to be done from myside as well. No one else reported this yet so it must not be a big issue.
(06/01/2004) - This chiller is amazing. It was SO quiet that i could not hear it kick on and off even though i was sitting next to it watching TV!! It keeps my temp from rising above 80degrees in a 20gal w/ a 400w MH in and inclosed hood...YES THAT IS RIGHT...400w on a 20H so you KNOW this guy has some power!!
(06/01/2004) - This chiller work Very good on my 90g tank with a 20g sump
(06/01/2004) - This is an excellent product. Bring on the summer with this chiller!!! This chiller keeps my tank (60Gal Hex) at a stable 75 F; even when the room temperature is hot. I wish I could live in my tank, it's more comfortable in there than in my living room! I totally recommend this product. When I become an expert, I'll probadly stimulate seasons by adjusting the chiller, heater, and lights.
(06/01/2004) - This chiller gets 5 stars from me considering its incredible value. I recieved mine yesterday and after plugging it in and making 2 hose connections, it brought 90 gallons of system water down 2 degrees in half an hour. It is quiet, compact and the unit is good looking. I actually dont have to worry about hiding the unit. It's easy to read digital readout is convenient to look at while viewing my tank.
