Since that this is a pressurized Kalkreaktor, the dissolution of the media by the carbonized water is enhanced. The effluent rate is only about 0.25 g/h at 40 drops / min. Thus explaining the efficient CO2 & media use. CO2 is being introduced into the Eheim powerhead direct - this is the most efficient Aspirating-Venturi method.

I have three of these units for a 125gal.(mixed reef), 220gal.(SPS/clams), and 170gal.(soft corals and mushrooms). They maintain Kh and Ca very well on the smaller tanks, but I do have to add Ca periodically to the 220gal. The key to making these run well and regularly is not to use the micro pumps, but rather install them inline. All my return pumps (Iwakis and one Little Giant) have about 10" of pvc w/ ballvalves before connecting to the flexible tubing. I drill a hole into this pvc and cement in a piece of rigid tubing to accomodate the vinyl tubing that feeds the reactor. It's really easy. The benefits are: no micro bubbles, good pressure to help with a steady drip of effluent, consistent operation, and no need to worry about the micro pumps being clean/maintained, taking up space in the sump, etc. I always had trouble with the micro pumps...after a few months, they needed cleaning, and they didn't provide enough pressure for precise microvalve adjustment. Lastly, this unit only supplies one micro valve, and two are neccessary. The one that's included isn't that good either. I purchased the Two Little Fishes micro ball valves from here (code TLF-MVB) and they are superb.

Works very good after set up and adjustment is completed. Somewhat dificult to adjust drip flows with valves provided. Also figure on a micro power head to make this unit work properly. They don't stress this in the add but in the directions it is almost considered a must have.

Initially very difficult to run consistently. Requires water feed pump such as Rio 50. Any microbubbles will cause unit shut down in CO2 safe mode. Once running consistently, effluent KH can easily reach well over 50! System Calcium is easily kept over 450 (if desired) and KH over 12! (My system has about 125 gallons total water capacity mostly SPS and Clams) This unit is VERY CO2 miserly as well. Customer support is very good via Email to m3 (Edward). I could not believe KH, pH, and Calcium readings with such a small amount of CO2! I have reduced testing of Calcium and KH to once a week. I add Stontium and Iodine at half the recommended frequency and dose. (Super Calc Gold media)...I recommend this unit to any reefer broke and tired from continuous additives and testing....
