Various Test Methods - each individual test will vary on type of test
method. We are proving information below to give you more overall knowledge of
all of there testing methods.

|
Titrimetric
Direct Reading Titrators are 1.0mL microburets calibrated for direct
readout in concentration; no counting of drops or calculations. |

|
Colorimetric
Octa-Slide Comparators -
Feature an all plastic comparator system within a bar which slides
through a special viewer. Provides a one-on-one color matching system. |

|
Axial Readers -
intensify faint color reactions, designed for use with Axial Reading
Octet Comparators. |
Electronic Colorimeters -
Help eliminate visual inconsistencies. A light source passes through a
sample and is measured by a photodetector. Results are translated to a
digital readout in ppm. |

5 Excellent, Easy to read
|

I have used Lamotte Alkalinity test kits for several years. The initial test kit is a little pricey, but the refills are a bargain at a quarter a test. The test takes just a minute to perform and the results are consistent from one refill to another. Visualizing the color change is one of the easiest I have seen. I have tried other test kits before the Lamotte, but haven't looked back after finding this test kit.

3 Difficult to read

The color change in this test is quite subtle (more so than Salifert's I think), so lighting is very important. If you have direct sunlight to do the test in, a slight color change can be seen from one drop to the next and it seems to give very reliable results. But under indirect sunlight or artificial light I can add several drops without seeing any color change. This makes the test very imprecise on cloudy days or at night.

I agree, this is a good test. I switched because Salifert has recently changed their alkalinity test. Previously, that had a seperate indicator solution. The color would go from blue to clear to pink in the span of three drops. It was by far their best kit. The new verion incorporates the indicator into the titrant itself (it is a reddish-orange color). Now, it gradually changes from blue to blue-green to green to yellow-green to whatever. IT IS AWFUL!!!
I wish i could go back and trash the new Salifert test kit, but you are only allowed one review per product, and I used my up on the previous version. So I'll say it here....DON NOT BUY THE NEW SALIFERT ALK TEST KIT!!!

Good test, seems more precise than salfert. Has a more defined color change. You have to convert from ppm to dkh yourself, I recomend going here: http://www.saltyzoo.com/SaltyCalcs/AlkConv.php this site will convert for you.
