Description: Superb Aquarium Carbon Type: Filtration Medium
Available In: 1qt, 2qt, 1,2 & 5 gallon, 25lb box &
44b sack
Part Numbers: rc1, rc2, rc4.5, rc7, rc15,
rc25, rc44Description: Removes organic pollutants, stains, and
entrained toxic gases in marine and freshwater aquariums or ponds. Contains
the finest pelletized activated bituminous coal based carbon. Pore size is in the 20 to 2,000 Angstrom range, ideally suited for removal of large organic molecules. Super activated with very high iodine and molasses numbers.
Less than .2% ash making it suitable for sensitive species such as discus.
Will not leach phosphates or promote undesirable algae growth, suited to
sensitive reef systems! Engineered for water flow, will not clog easily
like small granular or pelleted carbons. Out performs any carbon especially
coconut shell!
Directions: Reef Carbon is dusty. This is a necessary
characteristic of the finest carbons and is a small price to pay for a
carbon that is so active, low in phosphates, and ash, so rinse well in
cold running tap water. This will take some effort. IN THE AQUARIUM: Place
in a polyester bag or filter chamber and position for maximum water flow
through the carbon. IMPORTANT: You can use as any other carbon, but best
results will be obtained by using any carbon for only 3 days per month
or so. (This is because any carbon will continue to remove trace elements
long after it is totally plugged with organics.) Use only enough to remove
the color from the water.
Considerations for use: Reef Carbon is
also soft (this is due to pore size and makeup) and could release dust
into the system if mechanically stirred too rapidly. Do not place where
water will drop a large distance directly onto the product or churn it
violently. Because Reef Carbon is so active, you can use considerably
less than with other carbons (about 1/4 lb. or 1 cupful per 100 gallons
of tank capacity, you may need more or less depending on how dirty the
tank is). Reef Carbon will have done its job, so dose the tank with Kent
Marine Essential Elements, Discus Essential, Freshwater Essential, or A
F Cichlid Rift Lake Trace Elements as appropriate for your type of system
to restore trace elements removed by any carbon. CAUTION: Recent products
introduced by other manufacturers that contain strong enzymes may dissolve
the binder that holds Reef Carbon together. If this happens
the carbon can come apart and cause an ugly mess in your tank. Because
of this, DO NOT USE ENZYME PRODUCTS WITH Reef Carbon! Simply remove the
carbon, use the product, then replace the carbon several days later.
Contents: Bituminous coal based, steam activated,
pelletized carbon.
Precautions: Rinse well prior to using.
