The float valve does not shut off the unit when it becomes fully submerged. The alarm is stupid and serves no purpose. I do not recommend this product.

Sorry...but this device gave me problems within a couple of months. The floats stick and I have run my sump almost dry as a result. I am currently shopping for a new top-off system myself.
I would not recommend this device.

1 JBJ ATO - bnot as reliable as I had hoped

I would have rated this a 5 during the first 9 - 12 months of ownership, but now must give it a 1 for long term reliability. Having used this device for around 1 year I am dissapointed in the reliability of the float switch. The switch in the sump gets stuck periodically which will stop the ATO from delivering top off water. Although this means you won't get a flood, it also means it may cause the sump to run dry if the ATO stops working. This is obviously a risk for damaging the return pump, not to mention risk to the livestock. It's difficult to find the JBJ switch (needed as it has the JBJ proprietary plug to attach to the ATO unit) and costs around $35 when you find it, not including S/H. So the initial ATO package price is very attractive, however, I experienced the switch to be unreliable and expensive to replace. Now I am considering a Tunze - it's more expensive upfront, but may be less expensive in the long term.

5 Great ATO Unit

This unit makes life easy. Extremly easy set up, haven't had a problem yet. Nice how you can set it up with protection from burning out the pump too. FYI, the instructions to disable the audible alarm are right on JBJ's site. It's simple to remove.

3 IT SCREAMS

The functionality of the unit is fine, but whenever the water gets low and has to engage the pump an ALARM MUST SOUND. Ugh! Not wanting to return it, I opened it up and voided the waranty by lancing the little alarm diode devil with a pin. Sweet silence. I would give this a 5 if at least they gave you the option of turning off the alarm.
