| 5 Use an Aqualifter! | 08/26/2007 - by Bryan Stanford from Shiloh, IL US |
|
This overflow is designed to use an Aqualifter to remove the trapped air. This is simply a vacuum pump about the size of a small air pump. They are very sturdy and reliable. It is completely external, so you need not worry about depth as described in the previous review. They are also self priming, so restarts after a power failure are completely automatic.

| 4 The overflow is what they... | 06/01/2004 - by anonymous from unspecified |

The overflow is what they say it is. It is well built with tough plexiglass. The rated flow rate is about right and it is very easy to adjust the water level. The sponge filter has held up for almost 2 years. However, the C-design does cause much air to be trapped, and you must use a RIO pump. My first RIO burned out and I tried a couple of other brands of pumps with venturis, but none of them had enough power to suck the bubbles out of the overflow. You have to be careful not to put the pump to deep, otherwise even the RIO can't force the air that deep into the water. Make sure to clean the air nozzle occasionally because it can clog. | |
