| NEW This model was specially made for customers using the Maxijet 1200 powerhead on there remoras
The AquaC Remora and Remora Pro are undoubtedly the most efficient hang on skimmers available today, and what better than an accessory that boosts their performance by as much as 20%! The AquaC Surface Prefilter is a special box designed to hide the skimmer pump, thereby creating a more aesthetically pleasing aquarium. The Surface Prefilter isn't just about looks, however. Ever notice that oily "skin" on the top of your aquarium? The Surface Prefilter skims water off the top of the tank, which is often coated with a heavy load of organics. This can improve skimming by as much as 20% (much darker, smellier foam), and the prefilter has a slotted edge just like an expensive overflow box. The Surface Prefilter also contains a bubble eliminating sponge to get rid of those microbubbles that sometimes escape back to the aquarium. The water return area can also serve as a media chamber for those who choose to use activated carbon or phosphate removing compounds.
The Surface Prefilter installs in seconds and requires no tools - just attach to the pump and turn your Remora or Remora Pro hang on skimmer into a waste removing machine! |

2 Good Idea, poorly engineered

Like the title says, its a good idea but very poorly engineered. The biggest weakness are the screws that hold the surface skimmer to the protien skimmer via the powerhead - entirely inadequate, making the surface skimmer suceptable to the slightest bump. One side of the skimmer is more bouyant than the other, adding to the problem with the screws. The end result is that the powerhead regularly ends up sucking air alot until you come in and adjust. I have modified the item, and now it works great.. Mods: Weight added to balance. Suction cups added to box enabling me to mount to side of tank instead of utilizing screws. Small holes drilled below main surface grate to prevent the intake from going dry when either the waterlevel drops a little or the box gets out of adjustment. Rating as sold: 2 After customer modifications: 5

2 Although it does what it ...

Although it does what it is supposed to, it had to be modified for support of its weight. The slightest bump or disturbance causes it to pull the powerhead off. The screws that hold it in place only attach to the powerhead, and that does not equalize the weight support on the bubbletrap side of the box. However, once in place, it does make a big difference.
