I actually own the 2 pump unit, has been running for over 2 years now with no problems what so ever, other than a replacement hose here and there, which was more my fault. I have no problems with siphoning at all, I use it to dose ESV's B-Ionic, I keep a bottle of each below the pump, then it pumps up about 2 feet, then into the sump, just keep the ends of the hose out of the water and keep the pump above the level of what you are pumping from and it works like a charm! They also supply check valve's to use inline. Extremely customizable to your timing needs, can be set to pump any amount over any amount of time.

5 Aquamedic sp 3000

This unit has been in operation for more than a year. it is used to pump makeup water to a kalk reactor and for a gravity flow from the kalk reactor to the sump. the unit is up to 5 feet above the water level when the makeup water is low, runs 4 hrs in every 24 hrs, has a float switch and has been operating flawlessly for the past 14 months with absolutely no maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer. changed out tube, and roler assembly cracked. replaced and all is good to go. I suspect the reason for the roller failure was because I did not grease the new tube. If this unit is used correctly it is a great unit. motor, roller assy, and tubes are all replaceable.

1 Lasts about a year

I ran through 2 of these. DO NOT use them if you need to run them continuously. I burned out 2 of these, each lasting a little over a year. They almost don't pull water up at all. I had to pressure feed mine to get them to work. The one positive note I can say is they are silent running. I am looking for a replacement.

1 Money spent better elsewhere

Mine had a hard time pulling liquid up 7 or 8 feet. After about 2 weeks messing with this pump, it finally stopped working completely.
There are better pumps out there for about the same money. Even my $10.00 aqualifter was more reliable than this thing.

4 Pretty good pump for adding water slowly

I've used two of these pumps for over a year in automatic top-off applications. They were part of a top off kit that came with a float sensor to control the pump. They work great for pumping kalkwasser mix into the tank to replace water lost to evaporation. Since then I've set up an additional tank and was unable to find the kit version of the pump and ended up getting this pump separately and an ATO controller.
The pumps that I have received do not look exactly like the one pictured here, and I suspect the picture is out of date, as the model number is the same. They came with one-way valves to prevent a back-siphon from forming, but the tube is also long enough that at least one of the rollers is always pressed against it. Also, if you fashion a system for dripping the output above the water level rather than putting the tube in the water, it will be impossible for a siphon to form.
I've had to replace the tube in one of the pumps, but that was after leaving town for a week when I forgot to refill the reservoir and the pump was running dry for the whole time I was gone.
I am currently using these pumps to pump water about four feet above the water level of the reservoir and they accomplish this without a problem. You cannot position the pump itself much higher than the reservoir, but I have no problems when it is mounted about a foot above.
I think it's a great product and would hate to see it taken off the market due to a couple of bad reviews. If you order it make sure you get the one that comes with the two blue one-way valves. Otherwise, you're probably getting an older model.

It worked great for about a year then it started running backwards then forwards then back again. You can imagine what happened...

1 Piece of garbage

Don't waste your money, this pump can't even pump from 6" below my tank to my over flow about 30" total. The other problem is that there are only 2 rollers so depending on how it stops when the timer turns it off a siphon can continue to overdose your tank....
Get a litermeter of reef filler before you wipe out your tank!
