(08/09/2009) - I bought two of these about 18 months ago. They generate tons of flow, even on the smaller MaxiJets. When I checked them recently, I noticed the shafts on both had rusted, and one failed completely after cleaning. When I moaned about it here, Jason mentioned they had changed to a titanium shaft, and suggested I ask for replacements. They not only sent new shafts, but new propellers. Great service all around.
(07/17/2009) - Love it, Maxijets are one of those brands that's been around forever so you know their reliable, but this takes a work horse and turns it into a racehorse! I put these on a pair of Maxijet 400s and it turned my tank into a sandstorm. I actually had to get some of the plastic needle point grid to cover the openings to cut down on the amount of flow these were creating. Just wish it came with the Sure Grip mag rather than separate.
(02/13/2009) - Installed on my Maxi-Jet 1200, flow was great i gave rating of 3 because it tried to rattle the house down.. TOO NOISY.
(10/07/2008) - I had two of them running because they worked so well, so I got two more. Within 4 months, the anti-reverse tab on one of them broke and got stuck in the propeller, and I came home from work to a dead maxijet in my tank. Within the next two months, the mod caused the impeller shaft to push though and destroy two others. I did not run it on a wave timer per a reviewer's suggestion, but it still failed. This was a good product when it worked, but not reliable, and renders your maxijet useless after it fails.
(08/28/2008) - This thing is designed well from decent quality material puts out a huge volume yet gentle output and gets the tank really moving. Live Rock hardly has debris like before...
I wouldnt use it on a tank smaller than 48 inches Length...but your tank may be different.
It was somewhat noisy out of the box but after 3-4 weeks of running I cant hear it anymore.
Amazing mod....
(05/26/2008) - Good lord. I tried the larger propeller first on my Maxi 1200, and there was a literally an underwater tornado in my 50g tank. The water flow was excellent, but the fish didn't seem happy all plastered to the far end of the tank, and sand was flying everywhere. So, I put the smaller propeller back in, and positioned the powerhead high up and it's doing great. It's kinda noisy, but I'm hoping it will get quieter as it breaks in.
(03/25/2008) - I bought 5 kits. I have them on a wave timer. Only problem I'm having is for some reason the prop shaft on two of the kits have blow right out the back of two of the MJ1200. Blows the cover off and everything. Other that that you do get a great deal of flow. Don't sure what is wrong. Only thing I could think is maybe the shaft is just a tad to long. Sucks lossing two new maxjet 1200 in less then a few months.

(03/19/2008) - Wow, awesome product. I put these on a couple MJ600s and they moved water like crazy. No vibration/noise issues during the evening I played with them, but admittedly that wasn't much of a test.
Now the warning. I didn't really believe the flow they advertised, my own fault. It turns out that I can't use these in my 30 gallon tank without stirring sand. Well, I can just use them, but it's too marginal. If a nozzle ever got bumped it would be a nightmare. So beware that they actually mean it when they quote those crazy flow numbers ;~)
(02/25/2008) - Outstanding product for the money. I have three MJ400's in a 55GAL tank I think it might be to much flow if there is ever such a thing. They run great with little noise on my wavemaster pro. I will have to upgrade to the magnetic holders due to a little vibration. Still cheeper than tunze that can not be controlled.
(01/02/2008) - Just got this today Jan 2 2008 and must say this the best 19.95 spent on power head I also have a seio 820 which can not compare !!
(12/11/2007) - In terms of price and quality, this is probably one of the best deals out there within the reefkeeping hobby. The flow on these units creates incredible currents in my 220 and the customer service is top-notch! I'm currently running four of these units, two SureGrip magnets with two MJs on each. I'm also using their EasyBlade algae scraper on my Mag-Float. I can't wait for Algae Free's next big idea!!! :-)
(12/08/2007) - Bought 3, all work well. Tried them on a MJ600. 900, and 1200. Might work the best on the MJ900 (silent, less electrical usage but slightly... and I mean SLIGHTLY less flow). (I am using two 900s and one 1200 on a 65g SPS tank) The MJ1200 does rattle when first used, but after about 2 weeks, it stopped vibrating. Also, placing it in open water rather than a enclosed area helps too. Noise was NOT an issue after break-in period.
Creates insane currents at a very low price. Compared to buying three tunze and three kits and MJs, I save a few hundred dollars.
(12/06/2007) - I had problems with two out of the four. Mine broke at the swivel joint but I believe they have fixed this issue. Mark emailed me and has fixed the problem and is sending me new ones. Awesome customer service with this. Its amazing how much more water these move. If you have maxi jets for water movement, then you have to buy this.
(11/28/2007) - These do produce a lot of flow, and the kit appears to be very well made...I will give them that. I got the kit, and installed it on my MJ1200. Talk about rattling and vibration. I couldn't stand it, took it out of my reef. I use it outside now, in my saltwater mixing vat, and even after a few weeks, it's still loud. So, I tried it out on an MJ600, and, it's still got a lot of flow, but, it is markedly quieter. I don't even notice it other than a hum. SO, this probably is not the best to use on a 1200, as I believe I have read that the magnet used on this kit is for 600 & 900 models, not for the 1200.
(11/25/2007) - Way to much vibration noise .....Im using the suregrip magnet also. Just to load from pump vibration
(11/07/2007) - I have 4 of these connected to my maxijet 1200's on my 75 gallon reef. Unbelievable flow! They're connected to a wavemaster wavemaker, and create the most awesome currents, waves, and vortexes!
(11/01/2007) - they work great. a few of the ones I've got have had the prop hit the anti reversing tab inside the shroud, if you have any noise at all from the unit, trim that tab with an X-acto knife for proper prop clearance and you'll have completely silent operation.
(10/29/2007) - Great flow, but I don't like how noisy the unit is.
(10/28/2007) - I replaced my tunze 6025 with one of these. These move a lot of water and the flow is widespread !!! GREAT PRODUCT
(10/25/2007) - Great product and easy to assemble.
The downside is after 2 months of using them with a Red Sea wavemaker both have broke. It can not hold up to the constant starting and stopping.
(10/02/2007) - Great idea and it is executed well
Good kit, great part fit, and it is an easy install with Sure Grip. Positioning with ball and socket swivels are endless. Two of these more than cover g/h needs on a 180g tank that is fully stocked with very large corals. For a soft coral tank of smaller size the maxi 1200 maybe to fast. 1600g/h seems be a conservative estimate when comparing to other products. I will try smaller maxi units with this kit next.
(09/15/2007) - the flow is great and it is super easy to use.
the one drawback that is not advertised by algae gree is that it won't work w/ the original mj1200 suction cup bracket unless you use superglue. IMO the manufacturer should advertise this in the ad.
otherwise great product and great flow pattern. wide and gentle flow but definately an mj1200 on roids.
