(05/07/2008) - The outside wood looks great and goes better with the furniture since i always leave the ALgea Free Float Magnet attached to the side of the tank, in plain view, even when not in use. I use the Hammer model on 1/2" thick glass and it is plenty STRONG! It scrapes the smaller, newer coralline patches with just a few passes. I think the wood finish, the strength, and that fact that it also floats, makes it one of the best magnet scraper on the market today. Compared to the other brands that i also own: Stronger Magnet than the "MagFloat" brand. Also, the MagFloats is dressed in a terrible looking WHITE plastic that you can spot from a mile away. Compared to the Tunze, well the Tunze may be just as strong but the Tunze doesn't float. A floating inside magnet is better for retrieval than the string the Tunze magnet brings for you to fetch it without sticking your hands in the tank. Hope this helps your choice.
