There is some new information stating for best results you should use a Salinity Fluid like the American Marine Salinity Fluid. This will yield you much more accurate results.  How to calibrate with Salinity Fluid from American Marine: Take a couple drops and read your unit. You should read 1.0259 salinity or 35ppt. Adjust your unit to match one of these two numbers. Once you adjusted the refractometer is now fine tuned for saltwater salinity/ppt. If you read ro/di after calibration you will have a negative reading and that is completely normal, as the unit is fine tuned now for a saltwater tank.

The previous reviews said to throw away your swing arm... Smash it instead; don't look back. Clearly accurate and not affected by those tiny bubbles and temperature. Very quick process. My best aquarium investment to date. Unlike a swing arm or float, you dont sit there scratching your head questioning whether the reading is accurate. The price is right... get one.

If you think your swing arm is the way to go, you are mistaken. Incredibly easy to use, and very heavy duty! Save your fish and inverts stress, make sure you know your salinity!

Stop thinking your swingarm is accurate and you know those little bubbles are fun! This thing is so easy to use and you feel like a cool scientist when operating. Great price, be sure to get the calibrating solution so you know your results are accurate.

Throw those dumb swingarms in the trash. This thing rocks! Put two drops of water on it, and look into it, and your done. Quick, easy, ACCURATE results in seconds. . .

Great product! I had used a cheap Coralife hydrometer for a few years and it never let me down. I just bought this hydrometer and it works well too. I hope to use this for the rest of my life. Great price great product.

Don't know how i ever did without this product. So easy to use and i now finally have accuarate salinity readings. It makes no sense investing thousands of dollars in a reef and relying on inaccurate hydrometers. I not only highly recommend this product, but premium aquatics also...first class operation.

If you, like myself, are still relaying on a swing arm, you might to late discover that your salinity is way off. Great product calibrated ot of the box and to my surprise I was all the way up to 1.027 when the swing was steadily saying 1.024. Now I'm back on track.

I, like many, had been using the swing arm piece of crap that I bought for 5 bucks. To my surprise when I tested first with the swing arm it read .020 and then with this refractometer it read .024. Thats a big enough difference for me to be glad I spent every penny on this. Great product!! And dead on calibrated out of the box!
